How to see what site/app people are tweeting from

Where do people tweet from?[/caption] When you’re on Twitter and you’re reading through tweets, do you ever wonder what site or app people are tweeting from? Do you want to know if Beyonce is a Twitter for iPhone user and if Alan Sug…, sorry, Lord Sugar tweets from the web or an app?  Twitter’s own products don’t tell you, but others do. Whether you’re an online tweeter or your publish your 140-character long messages from an app, we’ve got the lowdown on where to go to see where people share their thoughts, blog posts, images and more. 1. Web – Hootsuite When you’re viewing tweets on Hootsuite, at the very top of the tweet under their handle (username) are three bits of information:

  • Date of tweet
  • Time of tweet
  • Where tweet was sent from
It looks like this: [caption id="attachment_521" align="aligncenter" width="308"]The people at Time Magazine like to use Tweetdeck The people at Time Magazine like to use Tweetdeck[/caption] Not only is this the case from Hootsuite’s online offering – it’s the same on their iOS and Android apps. 2. iOS – Echofon Echofon has been my choice of Twitter app for a very long time now. One of the features I like is that it shows what app people are tweeting from. If you follow UK pop singer Adele (as you can see I don’t) and you want to know where she likes to tweet from, then look at her tweets in Echofon and all will be revealed. As you can see from this screenshot, her app of choice is Twitter’s official iPhone app: [caption id="attachment_522" align="aligncenter" width="232"]Adele is prone to tweeting from the official iPhone app Adele is prone to tweeting from the official iPhone app[/caption] This is also the same for their Android app. 3. Android – Twicca I’ve never had an Android phone, so when finding out what Android app people like to tweet from, I turned to Twitter and asked those who have bothered to follow me. It was then, thanks to Michelle from Cork aka @CorkSeashell, that I discovered the app Twicca will tell you, as you can see from the screenshot below: [caption id="attachment_523" align="aligncenter" width="440"]See where people tweet from on Android from Twicca See where people tweet from on Android from Twicca[/caption] So if you want to tweet from the same sites or apps as some of those people you aspire to meet one day, that’s how you find out where their tweets originate from. 4. Windows – Peregrine If you’re a Windows Phone user you’re probably using the official Twitter app. If you are, you’re not going to be able to see where people are sending their tweets from. Instead, by installing this app and using this as your platform for tweeting, you’ll see what app or site tweets are sent from. Exhibit A… [caption id="attachment_726" align="aligncenter" width="193"]What a tweet looks like in the Peregrine app What a tweet looks like in the Peregrine app[/caption] Now you know.
